Roles explained
What each role can and can't do — Owner, Director, Associate Director, Q&A Moderator, Crew Member, Observer.
Roles explained
Roles control what someone can see and do within a location and its rooms. Every person in a location has a role — either the one they were invited with, or one assigned afterward in the room's Access tab.
There are six roles in total, from broadest access to narrowest.
Owner
The account owner has full control over everything. They manage billing, create and delete locations, configure settings at every level, and can remove any member. There is exactly one owner per account — it's the person who created the account. Ownership can't be transferred through normal role assignment.
Director
Directors have nearly full access within the rooms they're assigned to. They can run shows, manage cues, send alerts, moderate Q&A, and manage other members — including inviting new people and adjusting roles. The one constraint: a Director can't remove a peer Director or anyone with a higher role. Director is the highest role that can be granted to another person.
Associate Director
Associate Directors have the same broad access as Directors in most areas — they can run shows, manage content, and help administer the room. The distinction is in member management: an Associate Director can't remove Directors, and can't remove a peer Associate Director either. In practice, the Associate Director role is well suited for a second-in-command or a trusted team administrator who doesn't need the ability to remove senior members.
Q&A Moderator
Q&A Moderators have a focused, single-purpose role. They can see and use the Q&A moderation panel in the director view — approving, rejecting, and answering audience questions. Outside of Q&A, their access is limited to the standard crew view. When invited with this role, they're automatically added to the Q&A team across all rooms in the location.
Crew Member
Crew Members have base-level access. They can see their team's output and the notes attached to each cue for their team. They can't make changes to the show, manage other members, or access administrative tabs. Most people on a production team will be Crew Members — sound engineers, camera operators, lighting techs, stage crew.
Observer
Observers are read-only participants. They can see outputs and follow along with the show but can't take any actions within CueProX. Useful for guests, trainees, or anyone who needs visibility without any editing access.
