Cue solos

Assigning vocalists and musicians to specific moments in a song.

Cue solos

Solos let you pin specific people from the stage roster to a specific cue — a vocalist leading a chorus, a guitarist featured in a solo section, a keys player covering a bridge. The assignments appear on the Stage team output in real time as the director advances through cues.

Where to assign solos

Open the cue form modal for a Live Song cue (click the edit icon on any Live Song row). Scroll to the Solos section.

The section only appears when:

  • The cue type is Live Song
  • Stage Roster is enabled on your plan

The solos grid

Two columns, side by side:

Vocals (left) — two slots for vocalists. Only members in the Vocal category appear here.

Instruments (right) — two slots for instrumentalists. Only members in the Band category appear here.

Each slot is a dropdown. The options show the member's instrument and name — for example, "Vocal — Sarah Johnson" or "Electric Guitar — Marcus Webb". The first option in every dropdown is None (unassigned).

If your roster has no vocal members, the Vocals column shows "No vocal members in roster." Same for Instruments if you have no band members. Add them in the Stage tab first.

Saving and clearing

Select from the dropdowns and save the cue — the assignments persist with the cue. To clear a slot, set it back to None.

Note

Solos are not copied when you duplicate a cue. If you duplicate a Live Song cue to reuse it, you'll need to re-assign solos on the new cue manually.

Note

If a Live Song cue has no solos assigned at all, the Solos sections on the Stage output stay hidden. There's no empty placeholder — the output just shows the standard cue card. The sections only appear when at least one slot is filled.

How solos work with the show

Solo assignments live on the cue itself, not the event or show. They travel with the cue wherever it goes — if you move a cue between shows, the solos move with it.

Tip

If you run the same setlist repeatedly (weekly services, touring sets), build shows with solos pre-assigned. When you reuse the show structure, the solos come with it. You only need to reassign when the personnel changes.
