Messages and alerts
Two ways to push information to the crew during a show — channel messages and live alerts.
Messages and alerts
Director view has two ways to communicate with your crew during a show. They serve different purposes and live in different places.
Messages are a channel-based crew chat — persistent, threaded by team, good for context and notes that build up over the course of an event.
Alerts are short, prominent notifications that appear on output screens — ephemeral, immediate, meant to grab attention in the moment. For a full walkthrough of creating drafts, pushing live, and clearing alerts, see Alerts.
Messages
Open the Messages tab in the left sidebar.
The panel has two columns: the channel list on the left, and the active thread on the right.
Channels
There's one channel per team in your location — Audio, Video, Lights, and so on. There's also an all teams channel for announcements that go to every output screen simultaneously.
Messages sent to the Audio channel appear only on Audio output screens. Messages sent to all teams appear everywhere.
Sending a message
Type in the input field at the bottom of the thread. The placeholder shows which channel you're sending to. Press Enter or click Send.
Sending is disabled if:
- You don't have message-sending permissions
- You're an Observer
- No event is currently active
Persistence
Messages are kept for the duration of the event and visible to everyone in that room. They're cleared when an event is stopped definitively or when you choose Fresh start on resume. If you pause and resume normally, the message history comes back intact.
